When a content creator writes content for one platform, they are usually thinking about how to translate that content into several other platforms so they can reach more of their audience.
The main reason why we invest so heavily in content marketing as creators is to open a conversation with our current and prospective customers. This kind of engagement can help us improve our products, process, and most importantly, our sales.
As we build our content marketing strategy, it’s clear to see that building our email list with highly engaged subscribers is our biggest goal. Since email subscribers are 15 times more likely to buy from us than social media followers, building a valuable email list is worth including in our bigger content marketing strategy.

While affiliate marketing is only one type of content inside your bigger content marketing strategy, it can be extremely lucrative if you know how to optimize your content for your target audience.

Now, you may be wondering why you would share what you don’t like about it if you want to make sales. That seems counterintuitive, right?
Sharing things that you don’t like actually builds trust with your audience. It tells them that you are looking out for their best interests, not just selling something you claim is absolutely perfect when it’s not.
When you share the things you don’t like, you can always minimize them by sharing workarounds, why it’s not a priority to you or your audience, and focus on a benefit that makes the drawback irrelevant.
There are many affiliate marketing examples of product reviews, but let’s take a look at how different YouTubers have decided to review Rihanna’s Fenty makeup line.
Soph Does Nails reviewed what the Fenty products look like on pale skin while Nyma Tang showed what the darkest foundation shade looked like on her skin.
Both YouTubers know their audience, so they created custom content for people who fit their skin type. Instead of trying to create a product review suitable for everyone, they talked to a specific segment of their audience and, in return, did a great job with their affiliate marketing.
Review articles are a great way to explain why you love a tool or product, but it’s even better to share what results you’ve had after using it.
What are you more likely to buy: a skincare product your favorite blogging influencer says will “get rid of blemishes quick”, or a skincare product where the blogger shows an amazing before and after photo of their improved skin? Most of us would say the latter!
As they say, the proof is in the pudding.
If you have a success story behind a product you’d like to become an affiliate for, by all means, share it!! It will only help you enhance your marketing strategy and strengthen your pitch.
In the case study, she doesn’t stop at simply reviewing the quiz building platform and stating why she loves it. She also mentions that it grew her email list by 300%, a number we could all get excited about!
Along with sharing case studies, you can also share the exact steps you took to create something.
If you were able to prepare a full week of meals for your family in a few short hours, you could share what products you used and walk people through the sequence of ingredients you used to create each meal.
If you had a variety of fashion accessories you wanted to share, you could create a tutorial of how you put together five different outfits with each accessory. The possibilities are endless!
Tutorials make for great video content since you want to show your audience how you did something or created something with the products you are affiliate marketing. Since it translates into highly actionable content, it’s easier to convince your audience to take action in your affiliate link.
YouTuber Tess Wicks of Wander Wealthy created a simple video tutorial that explains how she organizes her day as an entrepreneur and links to multiple affiliate products she mentions in the video. When you watch the video, though, she presents each task from a storytelling angle so you don’t even realize it was created for affiliate marketing. So smart!
While we recommend creating blog posts and, if possible, video content on your best-performing affiliate marketing products, it’s also smart to have a Resource page on your website that can act as a full directory of everything you recommend.
Do you find yourself always getting emails about what tools you use to run your business, what items to pack during a solo travel trip, or what brands you recommend for beauty products? If so, you might want to create a resources list so you don’t have to keep answering the same questions over and over.
Also, by creating this list and putting it on your website, you can create additional affiliate marketing content that will generate sales if someone decides to buy something from your affiliate link.
One of our favorite Resource pages comes from Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income. Since he has a lot of knowledge on optimizing your content for affiliate marketing sales, he’s a great example to look at.
Do you notice how he doesn’t just include simple text links on his Resources page?
Pat also includes a small summary on why he loves each tool and adds logos for extra visual appeal. It reads more like a blog post than a Resource page, which makes all of the content more engaging.
It’s no surprise that Pat Flynn has been able to create a sizable income from affiliate marketing (over $105,000 in December 2017 alone!) with valuable content like this. We’ll take a page from his book (or website in this case) as we think about how to craft a winning Resource page that makes sales for us.
Instead of creating one blog post or video for every product you want to be an affiliate for, why not review multiple products at a time?
When you choose which products to compare against one another, think about which products your customers are likely researching about. Do you hear your friends, family members, or other online audience members trying to make a decision between one product or another? If so, that will tell you the best products to review.
When you create a comparison, it’s okay to share your opinion, even if it’s a little biased. Just make sure to state any bias you may have, such as recommending a product heavily because your best friend works at the specific company or the product creator is one of your clients. People will respect you for being honest!
A great example of creating comparison focused content is from My Life in a Bullet on YouTube. She reviewed over a dozen different bullet journals by sharing her thoughts about the thickness of pages, the bend of their spines, what pens are best on each journal, and how likely she is to purchase it again.
You can take the same principles and apply them to your product review!
