ConvertKit Monthly Report — November 2015

We've been so busy working to meet an aggressive goal for December that I completely forgot to write the November update until now (15 days late!).

There's a lot to cover so I'll just jump in to all the numbers.

The Stats

In November we beat all the growth records that we set in October. Monthly recurring revenue grew $25,445 (from $42,291 to $67,736). That solidly beats the $17,000 in MRR we added in October.

Net Revenue continues to be higher than MRR due to annual prepays from webinars. It's always nice to be collecting cash ahead of schedule!

We blew past 1,000 customers so quickly that I forgot to celebrate. Oops! We had plans to feature them and write a celebration post, but by the time I noticed it was too late to figure out who was actually our 1,000 paying customer.

Churn seems to be holding steady after a recent spike when we killed a couple shady looking accounts.

The Team

We added three team members in November:

  • Nicole St. Germain — Customer Success
  • Ashley Puga — Operations
  • Val Geisler — Content Marketing


Nicole hit the ground running with support nocking out a massive 450 tickets in her first week! She's been a ConvertKit user for quite a while so we didn't have to train her on how to use the platform.

If you write into support there's a good chance Nicole will be the one who helps you out.


Now that we have a large team it was time to get more professional systems in place for payroll, accounting, taxes, and benefits. That's where Ashley comes in. By the end of her first week we had a budget in place to predict expenses and cashflow and started to offer healthcare and benefits to our growing team.

I'm thrilled to have Ashley running operations for the company so that I can focus on product design and marketing.


Early on we tried content marketing to grow ConvertKit and it just didn't work. We didn't have our messaging right and we didn't know who our ideal customer was.

After we started to grow through direct sales everyone told us to do content marketing again—but I put it off. Direct sales were working so well that I didn't want stop what was working to try something new. So I made a decision: we wouldn't consider content marketing (since it could be a distraction) until ConvertKit hit $50,000 in monthly recurring revenue.

This month we hit that goal and then brought on Val to run our content marketing division. She's got a great plan for upcoming articles and already has a lot of great stuff on the blog. Stay tuned for a lot more!


In November we did a lot of development, but also got a ton of new integrations out. Here's the list:

  2. SendOwl
  3. ClickFunnels
  4. Zapier
  5. Genesis eNews Widget
  6. Teachable
  7. Easy Digital Downloads
  8. DPD

Now you have a ton of options for e-commerce (10+ total now!) as well as opt-in forms. We're particularly excited about SumoMe since it's used on so many sites.

Add one subscriber

One simple, but highly requested feature was to be able to just add a single subscriber to your ConvertKit account. Now that's easy with a couple clicks.

Duplicate Course

Now you can duplicate a course you already have with one click and then make just a few changes. That's far better than having to recreate the course from scratch.

Wrapping up

That's it for this month. I'm sure there's more I'm missing, but for now we'll wrap it up. November was another amazing month thanks to all of our customers. We love you guys. Our mission  to help you more successful.
