When Kit began 11 years ago, TikTok didn’t exist, Instagram didn’t have reels, and the job everyone vied for was software engineering. Back then, when people talked about creators, it was done with air quotes and people didn’t believe in your potential to earn a full-time living with your work.
The creator economy has evolved, and so has Kit. We’ve grown past just being an email marketing platform for professional bloggers to all creators, and we want to keep growing. We want to keep innovating and exploring the potential of what the creator economy can be with all of you.
At Craft + Commerce 2024, we announced five game-changing initiatives to build Kit into the operating system for the creator economy—and how we are going to do it as Kit.
How we are evolving
Site
Create your site directly on Kit with your Creator Profile to publish your newsletters, host your digital storefront, and any custom page you want to build. This will get you from idea to execution faster with less friction, and replace additional tools and eliminate additional decisions you need to make.
To make this even simpler, we also have 7 different templates you can choose from, ranging from traditional editorial to graphic-heavy styles.
Set up Polls directly from your Kit email editor to engage with and collect information about your subscribers, which you can later use to build segmentations.
Use polls to:
Understand why new subscribers joined your welcome sequence
Ask which product you should build next in your newsletter
Gather sentiment on how your content is resonating with your readers
This not only builds connection with your subscribers, but also increases your email clickthrough rate, which helps boost your future deliverability. A win-win-win.
We are launching our Newsletter Plan, which is totally free for up to 10,000 subscribers. But that’s not all—we want to bring the best practices that top creators use to build their businesses to the next generation of creators. So, on the Newsletter Plan, you also get a basic automation and email sequence to automatically welcome your subscribers, and you’ll get access to the Creator Network to accelerate your growth.
We’ve always said that the future belongs to creators, and it’s never been more true.
We’re launching an App store with apps you can install to do more with your Kit. This is the new ecosystem we are building to make Kit even more efficient for your needs.
We have five apps we’ll launch that will expand the way you run your business with Kit:
KitBoard: Add CRM to your Kit account. Easily visualize your sales pipeline to efficiently follow up with prospects and track customer conversions.
Wordsmith: Automatically turn your YouTube videos into email newsletters. Alert your subscribers of new video drops, round-ups, and more.
SavvyCal: Add a 1:1 booking widget to your emails with SavvyCal and sync all the information back into the subscriber profile in Kit.
Mighty: Connect your Mighty community and pull content from your community directly from your Kit account. Two apps in one.
SegMetrics: Get actionable information from Insights, a dashboard built in partnership with SegMetrics, that gives you a comprehensive look at how you gain, engage, and convert your subscribers.
The creator economy is built on a network of creators amplifying each other’s work, offering advice, and solving problems together. That’s why alongside the launch of our app store, we’re also rolling out beta access for developers to build, test, and launch their own apps on Kit with our brand new API v4.
All these initiatives get us closer to being the operating system for the creator economy. We have big goals to make your business even more valuable, and to better reflect this vision, we are rebranding to Kit.
We still believe in the initial values we set for our company—like working in public, defaulting to generosity, and teaching everything we know. That’s why we’re rebranding in public.
We’re building the operating system for the creator economy
You’ve done a lot with Kit over the years (like sending 112.3B emails, earning $32.1M through Kit Commerce, and gaining 5.8M subscribers from Recommendations), but we know that’s only the beginning.
With improvements to our core product, a new app store, and a new free plan, we’re looking forward to seeing what you do next. Kit is the place for creators to take their business seriously, learn how best to grow and monetize, and operate their business.
